Polish Absurds #2 - How to get driving licence in Poland

Hello,

Big part of my readers are from US, so they may find tons of absurd in this post. However I invite everyone to read it:)

So how to get driving licence in Poland?

  • You need to take a course for about $400-$500, which includes 30 hours of theory and 30 hours of practice
  • You need to pass theoretical exam which is rather easy. 18 questions, 2 errors possible. The tests costs only $8
  • Then the worst part: practical exam. One attempt costs $40 and it's rather common for people to fail 3 or more times. The exam takes about 40-60 minutes in which the person who is tested needs to drive through the city including parking between the cars on real parking lot. It's common for examiners to take people to the hardest possible places so they will fail, well it's more cash and free time for them.
  • If one fail, then re-take takes another $40 and one month of wait.

I am finally after the exam, so I know how hard it is to pass it. I've heard that in US it's easier and cheaper to get the driving license, the same in Czech Republic and on Ukraine.

How it looks like to get the driving license in your country? How much money and time one need to drive a car legally?

  2. Sounds about right to me. Over here, You can take the driving test without having to take a course but you have to place a magnet on your car displaying your driving status. L for Learners. This means that you need a supervising adult in your car at all times. Then after the probationary period you go for another test to get your real license.

  4. I'm in Florida in the USA. I passed drivers ed class in high school which was really easy. They gave me a form that I took to the DMV and they gave me my license. Getting my motorcycle rider endorsement was a lot harder though.

  9. Damn, it seems like they want you to fail. And that's damned expensive for a education class. It's not mandatory here in the US

  10. Pretty strict!
but as a result, all of the drivers that pass are quite the expert in the field of driving... no?
contrary to the US.... where all of these 16 year olds now have licenses...

  21. sometimes i wish laws are that strict here in LA, because you wouldnt believe how terrible some drivers are here, seriously

  22. That sounds pretty similar to Australia, the only difference is that you don't need to take a course, just learn to drive with a parent or a 3rd party instructor. After that part however you need to get 25 hours driving over 6 months then you can get your P's

  24. A friend told me that in Germany the driver license test takes 1 year to complete is this true?

  25. In Russia we should pay about 1000$ for theory course which consists of only 8 hours of lectures and then about 500$ for a practice lessons (about 20 lessons total each for an hour and a half). 20 questions test afterwards with 2 mistakes possible, but the driving test is not so difficult, most people pass it on the first try. Then again, you can just bribe someone at a police station to get your license without much trouble.

  26. Wish they would do that in the US. So many horrible, horrible drivers here

  27. I'm Polish and unfortunately i have to admit it's a real nightmare.

Final driving exam is a money making machine. They will drive you as long as you make a mistake (even 1,5h) constantly moaning about your driving style or speed wich makes a vary nervous atmosphere. It takes 6-7 tries for some. Stats are about 20%
